Summer is definitely here – and that means vacation! Although, for those of you who, like me, live in the South of the United States, we’ve been experiencing summer pretty much since May and things are starting to warm up. At the beginning of the year, I moved to Hilton Head Island, SC and am loving being so close to the beach again. There’s something about going to the beach that just instantly relaxes me to a whole other level – even if I just get my toes in the sand for a quick 10 minute walk.
That’s one of the main reasons I really love the idea of having vacation pictures taken. I know what you’re thinking:
“I’m on vacation. The last thing I want to do is stress about having my picture taken!”
But hear me out. Let me tell you my 5 reasons why I think it’s a great idea to get professional images taken while you’re on vacation.
You’re usually your most relaxed on vacation because you don’t have the normal pressures of life pulling at you, which translates really well in an image.
There are usually spectacular locations that you’ll want to document so you can look back at them and remember how such and such happened on that vacation.
If you’re traveling with people, they’re probably your people – the ones you love the most, who hold special places in your heart and life. People you want to remember for a lifetime.
If you’re anything like me, you probably overpacked and have some of your favorite outfits with you (anyone else go shopping before they go on vacation to get the perfect vacation outfit? No? Just me?)
You’re usually not as self-conscious about your appearance because . . . well . . .
beach hair – don’t care.
No, but seriously, though. I tend to look back on my vacation pictures and love them – even the pictures of myself (yes, photographers hate getting their pictures taken, too)! But I think my mom was my influence on this idea of getting vacation pictures taken. My family was spread out when I was growing up. My grandparents were usually in a different county, and then even we siblings were spread out after a while. So, whenever we would all finally get together, my mom was the one who had already hired the photographer (or set up the camera on the hood of a car) and now we have all these fantastic family images to look back on and remember wonderful vacations together!
Needless to say, I was super excited to be contacted by the Lee Family who came to Hilton Head for their annual family vacation and wanted to have a family session with me on the beach. They wanted a bit more of a vacation vibe to their images and I loved the concept we came up with. Of course, with a gorgeous backdrop like the marshlands of the Low Country, how can you go wrong?
