This blog post is close to my heart because, well, this couple is super close to my heart. My parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year! A golden anniversary is a huuuuuuge milestone, one you don’t get to see that often anymore these days, so I wanted to do something special for them and gifted them a portrait session with me on Hilton Head Island, SC.
One of the things I love about them is that even after all these years they are still learning from each other and learning things about each other. For example, Ron just recently learned that Sally had been a model for a while in the 60s. And Sally learned that Ron had been offered to model but he turned the agent down. I had a few interview questions for them and I loved the hilarious story about Ron’s wedding ring getting lost the day of the wedding and Sally refusing to walk down the aisle until it was found (which left Ron wondering why Sally wasn’t showing up)! But my favorite comments came when I asked them what they appreciate most about each other after almost 50 years of marriage.
Ron blurted out, “Acceptance. We accept each other,” and Sally quickly agreed and continued, “We can still disagree, but we still have a lot of passion and love for each other.”
“We have gone through so much together. We’ve cried together and we’ve laughed together. It’s amazing how different love is when you’ve gone through so many things together: it’s a deeper, stronger, more realistic, more fully-orbed love. And we can meet each other in all circumstances of life with the Lord.”
I am so blown away by this description of how their love has matured over a span of 50 years! What an amazing blessing they have in each other. Congratulations, kids!
